And the award of A-Hole of the week goes to-Sen. Kyl (R-Arizona)

Thanks to Ratilfar of Clipmarks For this one.
This is sexism at one of it's lowest points. It is not only women who need basic maternity care it's also the unborn child , who the GOP says they cherish so much, who needs it.

As the Senate Finance Committee moved into its fourth day of deliberations over the health care bill, tensions continued to rise.

Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), broke new ground defending an amendment he'd proposed that struck language from the bill defining which benefits employers are required to cover -- in this case, basic maternity care.

"I don't need maternity care," Kyl said. "So requiring that on my insurance policy is something that I don't need and will make the policy more expensive."

Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), interrupted Kyl: "I think your mom probably did."

The amendment was defeated, nine to 14.

State Shuts Out Hyatt Hotel

clipped from wbztv.com

Gov. Deval Patrick has instructed state employees to stop doing business with Hyatt hotels until it rehires 100 housekeepers it fired last month.
Hyatt Hotel Corp., citing declining revenues, laid off the Boston-area housekeepers, some who had been there for decades, and replaced them with workers from Hospitality Staffing Solutions, a Marietta Georgia company whose employees work at roughly half the wages and without benefits
"You must understand that what has been imposed on these workers -- most of whom have worked hard, played by the rules and invested their time and energy in your company's success -- is both upsetting in its own right, and also the worst nightmare of every worker in today's week economy," said Patrick.
The governor has ordered all state employees not to use Hyatt Hotels while traveling, or for any other purpose. "This is not how like to operate. But the treatment of these workers appears to be so substandard that it leaves me no choice."

Kennedy Successor Bill Approved

Massachusetts will be there to vote on Healthcare! Thank you Mr.Kennedy!
clipped from wbztv.com

The Massachusetts Senate has approved a bill allowing the governor to name an interim replacement to fill the late Ted Kennedy's U.S. Senate seat.

The bill goes back to both chambers for a final procedural vote on Wednesday before heading to Gov. Deval Patrick, who has said he would sign the bill.

Patrick's aides said they expect him to act quickly to name an appointee who would serve until voters pick a permanent replacement during a Jan. 19 special election.

The governor released a statement late Tuesday afternoon saying he appreciates the support voiced in the Senate, and that he "looks forward to final action on the bill."

The 40-member Senate approved the measure on an 24-to-16 vote.

"This is what Ted Kennedy wanted, what Governor Patrick and I wanted, and I firmly believe it's what people in Massachusetts want because big votes on everything from health care to climate change are being taken now, not in five months," Senator Kerry said.
