Cheney Says Bush Was Too Soft

"I think one thing we can agree about this is good for President Bush - when you have Dick Cheney out there saying you weren't crazy enough. That's probably good for his rehabilitation."

Former Vice President Dick Cheney believes his old boss, President George W. Bush, gradually turned away from his advice during their second term in the White House, showing a surprising independence as he started taking more flexible positions on a range of issues, The Washington Post reported Wednesday.
We have the vice president telling friends that toward the end of the eight years that the president went soft, that he wasn't tough enough on their policies. And that's been the vice president's complaint since they got out.
"Now we're talking about after we've left office. I have strong feelings about what happened. ... And I don't have any reason not to forthrightly express those views."
He'd showed an independence that Cheney didn't see coming."

According to Allen, however, Cheney's book may end up helping Bush's public image.

Confident Mass. Will be Fully Represented

Kennedy's seat may be filled in the interim
clipped from wbztv.com

Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo says he is confident he has the votes in the House to pass the bill to allow Governor Deval Patrick to appoint a temporary U.S. Senator to serve until the special election in January.

Representatives who will vote for the the bill say Massachusetts should have two Senators not only to vote on health care, but also the transportation reauthorization bill.

They say Massachusetts needs a voice at the table to get money, and a second Senator to deal with the 800 pending cases from Senator Kennedy's office.

The bill is a redrafted version from the measure originally filed. This bill would not have any restrictions on whether the temporary appointee will be able to run for Senate, which had been a sticking point in earlier debate to avoid giving that person an advantage in the special election.

This bill also requires that the appointee be in the same party as the Senator whose seat is vacant.
House Democrats will meet to caucus at 11 Thursday morning

On the One Hand: Clever Single-Handed Kitchware Design

Example of how design can improve daily life

one handed kitchen tool

While this all-in-one kitchen prep tool is a helpful innovation for folks with a fracture, partial paralysis other other disability it is also a brilliant multipurpose kitchenware design for anyone who has ever tried preparing and cooking food while on the phone or using both hands for different tasks at the same time.

one hand kitchen design

Something as seemingly simple as slicing and buttering bread can be difficult with nothing to hold the loaf or pieces in place, hence the traps and corners built in to make these everyday processes easy even single-handed.

one handed gadgets

Likewise, slicing fruits and vegetables, peeling eggs, opening containers or grating cheese are tasks we perform without thinking twice – at least so long as we have two functional hands to use.

Each wood highlight on the base white design of this all-purpose kitchen tool is itself a movable part of the whole, something that slides side to side (again: this can be done with just one hand)

Singer is pretty much right that U.S. ranks 37th

With biting sarcasm, singer Paul Hipp says the United States should be proud of its global ranking on health care.
"We're No. 37!" he sings in a new YouTube video that was released Sept. 9, 2009.
The number refers to the World Health Organization's ranking of the United States as the 37th best health care system in the world, out of 191 countries. In a cheeky countdown, the video shows viewers a cross-section of nations that ranked better than the U.S. in WHO's tally

Another Manatee at Cape Cod

Wayward Manatee Swimming In Cape Harbor

A wayward manatee is calling Sesuit Harbor home for the time being.

Dennis Harbormaster Terry Clen says the manatee, a male, is from Miami, and appears to be in good condition. It's swimming around the same area another manatee was spotted last year.

Sadly, he died from the stress of being in cold northern waters for too long before arriving at the center.

Hundreds of people flocked to the harbor to catch a glimpse of Dennis last year. Federal officials are anticipating the same type of curiosity this time, and are urging people not to touch or feed the manatee.
Manatees have been spotted this far north in the past, but they usually live in warm, tropical waters off the coast of Florida.
